Honor A Caregiver

Welcome To Caring For Martha

by Clarence Davan on 11/14/10

I want to honor my Father-In-Law Clarence Davan, Jr. for his dedication and care he has given his wife, Martha who was diagnosed in 2004. He has been Mom's sole caregiver and she could not get better care anywhere. Dad wrote guidelines for Caregivers, because he saw the need for the question that always came up; "But, what do I do?" On behalf of my husband, Doug and I, thank you Dad for your perseverance! We love you!!

I remember that Dad would take Mom to get her nails done every other week. She really loved it!

Clarence, Your beloved wife is a very lucky lady to have a husband like you!...I especially like the part about giving her a rose with her meals. That is so sweet. I also think you are right on the money when you say that the person with the disease cannot change but the caregiver can. That is the key to the best caring. You have some really great pactical tips here. Keep up the wonderful work and thanks for sharing. Pat Felice Family Services Director Alzheimer's Association of Colorado www.alz.org/co

Though I never got to meet Martha,I do know that Clarence gave his Wife the treatment EVERY mate should be so lucky to have.He followed the vows he took at his wedding many years ago, till death parted them a few days ago.May he and his family find lots of happiness in their memories with Martha.

My Uncle Dav has been and continues to be an amazing man, interested in helping caregivers across the nation connect with their loved one and create a loving environment. He cared for his wife with the utmost love and concern and truly understands this horrific disease.
